News About Medication Administration Renewal Training
|
|
| Providers
are responsible for renewing their MAT certification before
the expiration date in order to continue administering medication to
children. All providers will receive a letter from the MAT program
within the 6 months before your MAT expiration date. In the letter
you will receive details outlining your options for renewal. You
will also receive a code or PIN that will allow you to access the online
test.
The first option would be to take the MAT course again. This would be a wonderful option for people who took the first round of classes in 2004. There were significant changes made after the first year. The second option would be to take an online test. This is a great option for people who are computer savvy and who like the flexibility of testing at home. I would not recommend it for the computer-challenged. You will be able to watch a video segment at your leisure before taking the test. You will also have access to any handouts you would need to review prior to the testing process. The final option is to take the test at a proctored testing site. The proctored tests will be offered every quarter. You will receive the site information when you register. All materials needed to take the test will be provided. You will also have the option of coming early to view the video. It is not recommended that you use your MAT booklet because you might have an outdated version of the material. Providers have to pass the test with a score of 90% or above and will have two opportunities to pass the test. If you fail the test twice, you will have to take the MAT class again. you will receive one hour of training in the Nutrition and Health category when you complete your recertification. If you had a reported medication error within the last three years, you must take the MAT class again. You will not have the benefit of online or proctored testing. If your address has changed since you took the MAT class and/or you work at a different child care facility, you may need to notify the SUNY MAT Program for renewal information within 6 months of your expiration date. If you would like to preview the video or the handouts for MAT recertification, you may view them at anytime at www.tsg.suny.edu. Click on "How to Renew Your Medication Administration Training (MAT) Certificate" and follow the prompts. |
