For Infants:

*  To reduce the risk of SIDS, infants should be 

     placed on their backs for sleeping (unless your

     Doctor recommends otherwise).

*   Infants should never be shaken or hit.

  Infants should never be left alone in the tub

     or sink.

*   Infants should never be left alone on a bed or 

     any other surface that they could roll off of. 

*   Infants must be in a rear-facing car seat in 

     the back seat until a year of age and 20 pounds.

*   Never hold an infant while drinking hot liquids.

*   Never use the microwave to warm formula 

     because it can become very hot in a short

     period of time.

 

                                                   For Preschoolers:

 *  When your child  weighs 40 lbs they should be sitting in  

     the back seat of the car in a booster seat.

*  Bicycle helmets are required.

*  Keep medicines and household chemicals locked up and out 

     of reach.  (Keep the Poison Center number next to 

      your phone).

*  Teach children how to cross streets safely, however the 

     children should not play or ride a bicycle in the street alone.

*  Teach your child their name, address and telephone number

     in case they become lost.

*  Teach your child about strangers and not to go with them or 

     accept anything from them.

Teach your child what to do in case of emergency in the 

     home.

 

For Toddlers:

            *  Place Plug Protectors on all electrical outlets.

           *  Use safety gates on all stairways.

           *  Never leave your child unsupervised in or near a pool, bathtub, bathroom 

                  or bucket of water.

           *  While cooking keep your panhandles turned toward the back of the stove.

           *  Keep all poisons out of the reach of children.

           *  It is no longer recommended to use syrup of ipecac.  You should post

                  the universal poison center phone number near the phone.

           *  Choose toys that are safe and use the age guidelines on the package
