The Fine Art of Saying "No"
One of our jobs is to set appropriate limits for children's behavior. One of children's jobs is to find out how reliable and strong those limits are. When this happens, adults need to know how to say "no" to children in ways that are appropriate and effective. There are different ways of saying "no" to different children in different circumstances. In this course, you'll learn to reinforce limits without being either harsh or wishy-washy. Categories: 1 Length: 3 hours (11 days) Date/Time: May 30 to June 9 Fee: $27 for members $39 for non-members
Confidentiality in Early Childhood Programs
When you work with young children, you really know a great deal about them - and their families! Keeping this information confidential is a matter of trust, respect, regulations and ethics. This is an issue that sometimes only gets lip service but it deserves much more. In this course we'll take a close look at confidentiality, what it looks like and what can compromise it in early childhood settings. Categories: 4 Length: 2 hours (10 days) Date/Time: July 25 to August 4 Fee: $20 for members $28 for non-members
Introduction to Developmentally Appropriate Practice
When it comes to "doing the right thing" with young children in child care, it's not just a matter of everyone doing their own thing. there is actually an understanding of what is best practice when caring for young children. It is called Developmentally Appropriate Practice. In this course, you will learn what that phrase means, how it applies to the work you do with young children and how putting it to work will help you offer a program that is right on target for children.
